It is sometimes disheartening when you realise just how far behind the times the USA is compared to some other western countries when it comes to equality issues. Nevertheless, you can't deny the inevitable trend toward acceptance among the emerging, hyper aware younger population. It sounds savourless, but it really is a matter of waiting for the older generation to "die out".
Using national surveys and advances in opinion estimation, Jeffrey Lax and Justin Phillips from the Department of Political Science, Columbia University created estimates of state-level support for eight policies including civil unions and non-discrimination laws.
