Many of the religion verses homosexuality battles we've come across have been an "us verses them" affair.Religion = "we hate homosexuals". Homosexual = "religions hate us".
It is a rare occurrence when we meet these two forces personified in one voice trying to find stable ground. Pastor Geoff Farrow is a Catholic priest who, after having been asked by his bishop to instruct his followers to vote against gay marriage, spoke out about the injustices and morality of such action. We can't help but wonder how many priests over the centuries have felt a moral bell sound in their minds when given instruction to oppress a minority group. Even when science and social understanding have taught us otherwise.
We invite you to Pastor Geoff Farrow's blog. The following are some quotes we believe are relevant to this site:
TRUTH:
- "In directing the faithful to vote 'Yes' on Proposition 8, the California Bishops are not merely entering the political arena, they are ignoring the advances and insights of neurology, psychology and the very statements made by the Church itself that homosexuality is innate"
- "The greatest fear that [an adolescent discovering they are gay] would have is that they would be rejected by the people they love the most—their family. So, their solution is to try to pass as straight, deceive, and in effect—lie. Of course, this leads ultimately to self loathing."
- "How exactly is society helped by singling out a minority and excluding them from the union of love and life, which is marriage? How is marriage protected by intimidating gay and lesbian people into loveless and lonely lives? ... Worse still, is to intimidate a gay or lesbian person into a heterosexual marriage, which is doomed from its inception, and makes two victims..."
